Today is National Fitness Day in Ireland, the biggest and most visible annual celebration of physical activity of the year.

It is the day to celebrate the role that physical activity plays across Ireland. Facilities such as leisure centres, gyms, fitness centres and sports clubs are allowing folks to avail of free taster sessions, day passes, open gym or special offers.

Schools will be doing the annual Take on the Teacher Challenge. While workplaces can offer activity opportunities for employees.

Locally, TJ Reid Health and Fitness and The Watershed, both in Kilkenny, will be taking part and hosting a series of free events.

Last year our own Nathalie Lennon was the brand ambassador, this year the ambassador is David Nolan who was explaining to Scoreline what it was all about.

“It is in its seventh year, spearheaded by Ireland Active and aims to promote the benefit of physical activity, also showcasing the range of facilities, sports, and options available to people right across the country. “

“The message we want to get across is that it is sport and exercise for all.”
