The Kilkenny Floodlit league kicks off their season tonight with a cup competition on the cards in the Loreto.
The association will be celebrating its 21st year in existence and one of the league administrators Eamonn Cleere says more young people are registering for clubs than ever before.
“When the night owls was going it was kind of slipping a bit and we could see this happening, we kind of said we’ll do it (floodlit league) in Kilkenny, by Kilkenny, for Kilkenny and that’s what we’ve been doing since we started really,” said Eamonn.
“It started with older guys, a social outlet, that was the idea behind the night owls as well, but then the younger lads came, the weeknight soccer suits them better than a Sunday because of family commitments or work commitments so it’s all good” he added.
It has also been confirmed that new teams can still register for the league.
