Over €1 billion euro was spent by Premier League clubs in the latest transfer window, which saw a number of late moves to catch the eye.

Chelsea have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan with an option to buy next summer. The 26-year-old was part of Atletico’s La Liga winning title side last season and scored 53 goals in 447 appearances for the Spanish club.

Speaking of Athletico, they have re-signed French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann on loan from Barcelona.

Griezmann is the 11th player to leave Barcelona this summer. In his first spell with Atletico, the 30-year-old scored 133 goals in 257 games.

For their part, Tottenham have brought Brazilian full-back Emerson Royal to North London, paying Barcelona £25.8 million for his services. Serge Aurier has left Spurs with his contract terminated by mutual consent.

And Kylian Mbappe will remain a Paris Saint-Germain player for now, after his proposed transfer to Real Madrid failed to materialise.

There were a number of Irish players on the move before the transfer window closed.

Striker Michael Obafemi has joined Swansea City on a permanent deal from Southampton.

The 21-year-old has signed a three-year deal in Wales for an undisclosed fee.

Defender Lee O’Connor has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan from Celtic.

Another player to go on loan is Conor Coventry, from West Ham United to Peterborough, while Harry Arter has left Nottingham Forest and joined Charlton on loan.

The Glasgow club sold Odsonne Edouard to Crystal Palace for £14 million and Ryan Christie to Bournemouth for £2.5 million, while they acquired defender Cameron-Carter Vickers on a season-long loan from Tottenham with the option to buy.

Celtic also snapped up Jota from Benfica on a season-long loan and Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has moved to Parkhead on a five-year contract.
